1946 - John Wesson - Garage Builder

1946

John Wesson founded Wesson Garage Builders. The end of WWII and the baby boom marked an increase in demand for garages with the increase of cars and the need for storage in ever growing families. Thus, John Wesson and his team built around 10,000 garages in the greater Toledo area in the decades following.

1940’s

Wesson Homes was founded as a separate entity to build primarily kit homes.  The company likely lasted into the 1960’s when it closed its doors.  The company does not exist today; however, its legacy continued within Wesson Garage Builders.

1960

John Wesson sold a portion of his business to 3 main managers Harry Lingo, Edward Warrington, and Bruce McGrath.

Bruce McGrath of Point Place was a WWII Army Staff Sergeant.  He landed his group at Normandy without loss of life.  A gentle, yet tough and stubborn Irishman, his hard work and determination allowed him to become an owner of Wesson Builders.

Edward Warrington was in the Navy during WWII and achieved the rank of Chief.  For the majority of his working years, he was employed by DuPont.  He was also an owner of Wesson Builders until 1979.

Harry Lingo served in the Navy during WWII.  He was a supervisor for DuPont for many years.  His career with Wesson Builders spanned nearly 40 years.  Harry eventually sold his remaining interest in the early 1990’s.

1979

Each manager over the years sold their share to Harry Lingo. Harry owned the business until 1987.

1987

Dennis and Bonnie Wolke took over. Prior to Wesson, Dennis was an engineer at Surface Combustion and Bonnie was a teacher. Together they continued the fine tradition of the Wesson Builders name, which has come to mean quality workmanship built to last. They continued with garage building at the same time launched into remodeling of other areas of the home such as kitchens, baths, additions and much more.

2013

Another chapter in Wesson Builders history began. Callie and Barry Hornbacher continue the tradition as the new local owners. Both Callie and Barry came from Owens Corning with a focus on building materials and sustainability.
